Danger! Danger!

People have always loved television which features danger because danger equals drama. The new trend in reality TV is a focus on jobs which are extremely dangerous. Though most of them pay well, the conditions are rough beyond compare. It's often difficult to imagine how some people have the nerve necessary to pull of these amazing feats of bravery.

Ice Road Truckers

Ice Road Truckers risk their lives everyday during the winter season to transport goods and supplies across Alaska on a road made of ice. Hauling thousands of pounds of precious cargo from town to town, this job is extremely hazardous. The situation is even more precarious when the drivers must head up and down mountains in bad weather. More issues arise when spring arrives and the ice road begins to melt.

Ax Men

Ax Men focuses on loggers in the forests of the Northwest United States. These brave men work with equipment which could rip their limbs from their bodies. Falling trees also cause hazardous conditions. If they are not paying attention at all times, their lives could end in a split second.

Deadliest Catch

The name of the show says it all. The various ship crews head out each season from Dutch Harbor in Alaska to fish the Bering Sea for Opelio crab. They must watch out for lines which could maim them. Additionally, the frigid weather and long hours are unpleasant at best. When they get near the ice fields and the ships get covered in the stuff, they risk hypothermia. Past shows have included coverage of men lost to the Bering Sea, a harsh and unforgiving seafood provider.

These shows feature men and women who do jobs most of us would never attempt. You may envy their bravado or scorn their psychosis. Either way, they make bank doing what normal men and women just can't fathom doing.
